Holding space to honor cultures, beliefs, and lives & bringing compassion and understanding to death.

A Deathwalker
(End of Life Doula/Death Doula)

Hello and welcome!  My name is Adam, and I am grateful you've stopped by.

My goal within these pages is to help people to create a comfort, acceptance, and strength in the reality of death and dying.   This is about living "death aware" and NOT "death-obsessed".  This is about creating a healthy and positive mindset that enables us to live and die with a clearer purpose and in a way that is intentional and meaningful to us.  This is not medical advice, as I am not a doctor.  This is not legal advice, as I am not a lawyer.

I encourage you to challenge yourself to find your truths about end-of-life, dying, death, and beyond.  I favor no particular religion, faith, nor spiritual path in this pursuit.  Instead, I honor the place in which you are, and hold space for you to explore your questions, experiences, and beliefs as they make sense to you.

This is a place of exploration, journey, and understanding.  This is a place for open minds and open hearts.

If there is just one thing that you take away from our time together, I would like for it to be this: Yes, we will all die, and thinking, discussing, and planning to make that experience as loving, personal, spiritual, and peaceful as possible is anything but morbid, bleak, or negative.

How did I get to this work?

Let's learn what brought you here.

Starting someplace.

The Forbidden “D’s”

Death and Dying: Saying the words does not make it happen.

Yes, words have power, but that power comes from intention.  Here, we are discussing death and dying with the intention of building a comfort, acceptance, and strength in the reality of death and dying.  Our intention is to build a positive umbrella under which we will all sit.  We will all die, though hopefully only after long, healthy, and happy lives.  We can either hide from that reality, or we can face it from a place of increased comfort, acceptance, and strength.  Within this intention (comfort, acceptance, and strength in the reality of death and dying), every person here has the opportunity to gain a foothold and place to start your conversation with yourself.

Can we talk about life?

So, here’s an interesting point – For many people, one main reason death and dying are so unsettling, is that it means the end of life.  Seems obvious, right?  But I would like for you to sit with that sentence, and mentally walk around it for a second.  Here it is again – For many people, one main reason death and dying are so unsettling, is that it means the end of life.   Did you have any inspirations from that statement?  You cannot explore death without understanding life, and what makes it valuable to you.  A LOT…much of death exploration is rooted in life exploration.  Let’s revisit that.  A LOT…much of death exploration, is rooted in life exploration.

When death is approaching, we are forced not just to look forward into the unknown, but also backward into our journey, all while being present in the experience.  That is a lot to process all at once, potentially within a short timeframe.  Our work here is about having a place to start processing these thoughts, in whatever way resonates with you, in advance, to lessen the burden and ease the experience.  This work is as much about life – good, happy, wholesome, productive, loving life.  Our goal is to explore our thoughts, beliefs, and emotions with an eye toward end of life, so that we can work to live the kind of life that will leave us at Death’s door (whether that happens suddenly or a long time from now), with an increased sense of comfort, acceptance, and strength.
